A vacuum erection device is yet another way to treat ED. A plastic cylinder fits over the penis and the device produces a vacuum that draws blood into the penis producing engorgement; a rubber ring is then placed around the base of the penis to hold the blood in. Most men are not satisfied with use of a vacuum device, but it is an option. The erection tends to be cold, somewhat limp, and not well supported (the erection flops and pivots). Satisfaction rates with vacuum erection devices are less than 50%.
