Important Information for Urology Centers of Alabama and the UCA Women’s Center Patients

Due to the COVID- 19 pandemic, we are taking the following precautions to protect our patients and staff.

Effective Monday March 16, 2020, UCA will begin making the following operational changes in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the week of March 16th, we will continue regular hours and clinic operations at Homewood, UCA Women’s Center, Trussville, Grandview, Alabaster, Medical West, and Princeton.

UCA will immediately suspend satellite clinic operations beginning March 17 through April 3, 2020.  The following clinic locations will be closed during that time:  Fultondale, Gardendale, Hoover/Princeton, Prattville, Sylacauga, and Winfield.  We will also close the St. Vincent’s Birmingham location effective Tuesday, March 17th and centralize those operations to the Homewood Office.  Our staff will be contacting you if you have an appointment at one of these locations to reschedule for a different location or later date.

If you or anyone in your home is experiencing signs or symptoms of a respiratory illness or is running a fever, we ask that you reschedule your appointment.

If you or anyone in your household have been on a cruise or traveled to or from China, South Korea, Iran, Italy, or Japan within the last 14 days, please contact our office to reschedule your appointment.

We are requesting patients to attend appointments alone if possible.  We will limit each patient to one visitor only at his/her appointment.  All visitors will also be required to complete a screening questionnaire upon entering the facility.

If you would like to reschedule your elective/non-emergent appointment (i.e. six month/1 year checkups, erectile dysfunction, prescription refills, overactive bladder, incontinence and urinary frequency), please contact our office.  We may also offer you the option to complete your visit via a Telehealth visit if appropriate for your specific condition.

Please use the following 3 options to contact us:

  1. You may access your Patient Portal and send an appointment request. The web address is:  https://www.myhealthrecord.com/Portal/SSO. You will log in as the patient in order to send the message. We will respond via the Patient Portal.
  2. You may also call our office at 205-930-0920. A list of direct dial numbers to each physicians’ Medical Secretary can also be found at the following link. https://www.urologycentersalabama.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/UCA-SECRETARY-LIST-WITH-DIRECT-DIAL-NUMBERS-UPDATED-03.16.2020.pdf
  3. You may visit our website at urologycentersalabama.comto send a message through our email system. Once on our website, please click contact us and leave your message there.

If you have an upcoming surgery, please stay in close contact with our surgery schedulers.  We are expecting the hospitals to begin limiting elective surgeries this week.   A surgery scheduler will contact you if your surgery is cancelled.

We expect to have extremely high call volumes in the coming days. Please attempt to use the other forms of communication with us if possible.  When calling, you will also have an option to leave a message. We will return your call as soon as possible.

In order to assist our community with the burden to all healthcare facilities during this time, we ask that you contact our office first for any urgent urologic conditions prior to going to an emergency room or urgent care office. Those facilities will be overloaded, and we all need to try not to burden the system. We will do our best to treat your urgent need and only direct you to those locations if necessary.

Our team at Urology Centers of Alabama appreciate the trust you place in us to care for your urologic needs.  During this unprecedented time, we appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate through the coming weeks.  We can assure you we will do our best to continue to deliver the best care possible for all of our patients.  We encourage you to stay informed, practice social distancing, and assist our communities in getting through this time as safely as possible.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information

As the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak continues to dominate headlines, Urology Centers of Alabama has made monitoring and responding to this situation as a top priority for the health and safety of our patients and employees. At this time, the immediate health risk to the general American public is still considered low by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). However, because the virus is now confirmed in our state, Urology Centers of Alabama is following the CDC’s recommendations to help prevent exposure and spread of the virus. Among other normal precautions, we are screening all patients and visitors for respiratory symptoms and encouraging sick employees and patients to stay home.

If you have recently traveled to, or been in close contact with someone who has traveled to one of the high-risk areas:

Currently defined by the CDC as China, Iran, Italy, Japan, or South Korea; and have a fever, cough, or shortness of breath — please call us to reschedule your upcoming appointment or surgery.

If you believe you have been exposed to COVID-19, the CDC recommends you call your primary health care provider.

Most importantly, please protect yourself by washing your hands frequently with soap and water, covering your mouth when coughing or sneezing, and avoiding close contact with anyone who has a fever or cough. For additional information about COVID-19, please visit www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov .
