Q: Where are you from?
A: I am originally from Hollidaysburg, PA. I moved to Madison, WI, in 1998 and lived there until 2005 when I moved to Birmingham!
Q: Where did you attend school, high school and beyond?
A: I went to Hoover High School. I then went to the University of North Alabama, and I received my ADN from Breckinridge School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Q: How long have you worked at Urology Centers of Alabama (UCA)?
A: I have been at UCA for about 1.5 years. Prior to working for UCA, I worked with several of UCA’s surgeons at St. Vincent’s Birmingham.
Q: What is your favorite thing about working at UCA?
A: I love that within all our different departments and specialties, we all work as cohesive team. I also love feeling appreciated by my employer.
Q: What advice might you give to a patient that’s nervous about his or her appointment?
A: It is totally NORMAL to feel nervous. We expect you to be nervous. My team of RN’s in the ED clinic always does our very best to combine patient education and a superior bedside manner to make our patients feel comfortable. Our patients should know we do this all day, every day and are prepared for any situation. They should also know we are always available by phone or email for any questions they may have.
Q: Tell us about your family, i.e. spouse, kids, grand kids, pets, etc?
A: My husband and I have been together for 10 years, and we have 3 beautiful kids. Eliott Katherine is 6; Edison Lynne is 3, and our newest edition, Ezra Warren, is about 2 months old. Our daughters both love to dance and sing, and the baby has just started to smile at mommy and daddy. Our family dog, Andouille, is 1 year old Doberman, Great Dane mix who is definitely the BIGGEST baby in the family.
Q: How do you think your best friend would describe you as a person?
A: I was unsure, so I asked her and she said “You’ve got a huge heart with a deep sense of loyalty to your family and friends. Always down for a good laugh. You’re a fantastic mom whose children always come first, and you never let those you love forget that you love them.”
Q: What is your favorite weekend activity?
A: We love going to Veteran’s Park or Red Mountain with the dog, hanging with friends and their children, and having big pot luck dinners together.
Q: What is your favorite restaurant in the Birmingham area?
A: Hmmmm, that’s a hard one. I love Bottega and Costa’s Mediterranean.
Q: Pick a color that describes your personality, and tell us why.
A: Probably purple. I’m very ambitious and loyal to those I love. I also am outgoing and loud at times, love to laugh and joke around.
Q: If a movie was being produced about your life, what famous actor or actress would play your character?
A: Jennifer Lawrence
Q: What song do you karaoke to when you’re alone in your vehicle?
A: Any song I hear! My kids and I love a car karaoke session. One of our favorites is “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler
Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up and why?
A: I always wanted to be mom. I knew that for sure since I was 2 or 3. For a long time, I wanted to be a politician, but thankfully I found my calling.
Q: If you had to pick a theme song that played every time you walked in a room, what would it be?
A: “Walk This Way” by Aerosmith.
Q: If you had to be an animal, what would you choose?
A: A house cat, living a life of naps and cat food on silver platters.
Q: Provide a quote about working with patients/couples in the ED clinic
A: Working in the ED clinic is a unique job. I love that I have an opportunity daily to restore a part of a man or a couple’s relationship that may have been missing. We get to make patients feel at ease talking about a subject they may have never addressed before for various reasons. I love when patients tell me how easy the process in our clinic was and that they wish they had come in to see us sooner!
