Dr. Michael Bivins
For 18 years, Dr. Vincent Michael Bivins has been a dedicated member of the team of doctors at Urology Centers of Alabama. Dr.Bivins received his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of Alabama. He subsequently completed his medical education at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, his internship in General Surgery at Vanderbilt Medical Center and his residency in Urology at the University of Oklahoma. He then completed a clinical fellowship in Urology Oncology at the University of Washington and went on to join Urology Centers of Alabama in 2002. In 2021, he was announced President of UCA where he provides leadership to the board of directors, shareholder, and providers of UCA. Dr. Bivins works closely with the leadership team on operations and future strategic planning initiatives.
Dr. Bivins’ particular clinical interest is robotics. Among the procedures he performs are robotic prostatectomy, cystectomy, both partial and radical nephrectomies, subtotal prostatectomy, female pelvic prolapse, and urinary reconstruction including ileal conduit and neobladders. Furthermore, Dr. Bivins also cares for patients with stone disease, erectile dysfunction, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and incontinence.
In addition to serving the patients at UCA, Bivins resides on the boards of the Jefferson County American Cancer Society, YMCA and Urology Foundation. He is the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Baptist Princeton as well as the President of University of Alabama School of Medicine Medical Alumni Association. He is a current member of the University of Alabama President’s cabinet and is an advisory board member of the Honors College at the University of Alabama. He is a member of Leadership Birmingham and Leadership Alabama. He’s also a member of the American Urology Association, American Medical Association and the Medical Association of the State of Alabama. He received his board certification from the American Board of Urology in 2004. He was elected to the 2008 Class of Leadership Birmingham. He has authored several papers and has been involved with multiple clinical trials. Dr. Bivins gives back to his community by providing free prostate screenings for low socioeconomic areas. Bivins is also a retired member of the United States Air Force Reserve.

My first visit with Dr. Bivins today, October 3, 2023 was absolutely professional and very informative. He took the time to explain my situation and provided me with answers that I truly needed to know. I'm very grateful that Dr. Purcell select him to be my surgeon. I am also grateful for Dr. Katisha Vance, my Oncologist. If at anytime there is a need for anyone needing a urologist I strongly suggest Urology of Central Alabama. Dr. Bivens is a wonderful and compassionate doctor. When a “spot” was discovered on my right kidney, my urologist referred me to Dr. Bivens because he( my urologist) said that he needed a second opinion from the BEST, so he sent me to see Dr. Bivens. After reviewing my scans, Dr. Bivens gave me two options: have the tumor removed or leave it alone die to its size and just monitor it. I didn’t know what to do, do Dr. Bivens told me that if I was his sister, he wouldn’t remove it. I prayed and could feel that I could trust him… decision made: no surgery
A year later, I’m still trusting the Lord and Dr. Bivens. I’m so thankful that he came into my life as my medical provider. Thank you, Dr. Bivens!
